Game Time!

I have been given the opportunity to help out with the high school golf team and I am so excited! I get to travel with them and see how to manage 40 girls on the road. This kinda makes me nervous but then I just remember how valuable the experience is to my future as a golf coach. I have always wanted to teach/coach golf and I am getting a wonderful chance to get my feet wet and meet coaches from all over. Yesterday was the first time I got to go to practice and it was good. However, I am not sure which one takes more patience-playing or teaching the game.

The Real Deal

Week one down. Forever to go! That may sound depressing but it is not because there is so much that I still want to do that I may run out of time before I run out of things to do! I officially taught BCIS-1 for the first time today. Surprisingly I was not nervous and class went well. I think the kids actually learned something. One of my classes is very personable and we have already made fun about each other in an appropriate manner. Starting Friday, I will get to incorporate some activities that I have created myself in my Math classes. Most people do not care for math but I think it is awesome and I am ready to share my love for it in a way that may help the students enjoy it a little more. It has only been a week and a couple of days but I have already made trips to I.S.S., almost witnessed a fight and had a door slammed on me. But I have also slipped in the hall landing on one knee all while doing the splits. It was great! The kids laughed at me when I told them the story and then we all laughed together. I also learned that sharing my failures helps connect with the students. Trying to act like I have it all together only segregated me and did nothing to earn their trust or respect. I am grateful to have realized this along with my teacher face and ears because now we can relate to each other but I am still the authority and not a peer.
